Uruguay
The second smallest republic in South America, Uruguay is known for its colonial towns, spectacular landscape and world-class beach resorts, along the Atlantic coast. The capital city of Montevideo is famous for its colonial architecture and fine white-sand beaches including the Playas and Miramar. Other tourist attractions in Uruguay include the beautiful beach resorts in the Uruguayan Riviera region, famous for beach and water sports; the beach town of Santiago Vazquez on the St Lucia River; Parque Nacional Santa Teresa (national park); and Museo Didáctico Artiguista (museum). Visitors can also enjoy exciting activities like swimming, boating, fishing, surfing, water-skiing and yachting.
PLUNA, Uruguay’s national airline, operates direct flights to Argentina and Brazil, which in turn are well connected by air with the rest of the world. High-speed ferries operate from the capital Montevideo and Colonia to Buenos Aires (Argentina). Regular buses also run between Montevideo and Porto Alegre (Brazil).
