Banks and exchange Banamex, on the zócalo, will change cheques (9am-5pm) and also has an ATM. Other ATMs are plentiful but if you're not travelling with plastic you can change money at the numerous casas de cambio that line the nearby streets: rates tend to vary so it's worth shopping around.

Buses Estrella Blanca (tel 3/222-6666, or 221-0848 at the station; closed Sun), 11 Basilio Badillo near Insurgentes, have first-class services to a long list of destinations including Acapulco (2 daily; 18hr), Guadalajara (17 daily; 5hr), Lázaro Cárdenas (2 daily; 12hr), Mazatlán (4 daily; 8hr) and Mexico City (5 daily; 13-14hr). Primera Plus (tel 3/233-1616, or 221-0099 at the station) run first-class services to Barra de Navidad (2 daily; 4hr), Guadalajara (13 daily) and Manzanillo (1 daily; 5hr). They share their offices at 268-9 Lázaro Cárdenas with ETN (tel 3/223-2999, or 221-0550 at the station), who operate super-deluxe services to Guadalajara and Mexico City. Pacifico (tel 3/222-1015, or 221-0869 at the station),160 Insurgentes at the crossroads with Carranza, also offer first-class services to a long list of destinations. For second-class buses to Manzanillo (6 daily) and Barra de Navidad (6 daily) try Servicios Coordinados (tel 3/221-0095).

Flights Puerto Vallarta is well served by flights to other Mexican cities, the USA and Canada. Prices vary dramatically with season and availability but, organized from this end, tend not to be cheap. Contact the airport for further details or call the airlines direct. Travel agents or any of the numerous agencies north of the river can also provide up-to-date information and advice.

Internet   The Net House , Vallarta 232, and pvC@fe.com , Olas Altas 250, both charge around US$3 per hour but offer better rates if you purchase five or more hours in advance.

Laundry Lavandería Blanquita, Madero 407, east of Aguacate (Mon-Sat 8am-8pm). There's also a full-service place just up from here at Madero 430 (8am-8pm).

Pharmacy CMQ, Basilio Badillo 367 (tel 3/222-2941), next to CMQ Clinic, is open 24hr; or try Lux, Insurgentes 169 (tel 3/222-4956).

Phone and fax services There are various booths providing long-distance phone and fax services, such as the one on Cárdenas near Pino Suárez.

Post office The main post office is at Mina 188 between Juárez and Morelos (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm, Sat 9am-1pm).

Travel agents SAET Travel Service, in the Centro Commercial, corner of Morelos and Rodríguez (Mon-Fri 9am-2pm & 4-7pm, Sat 9am-2pm; tel 3/222-1886).
