Outskirts of Beijing Travel Guide

The most compelling sights on the outskirts of the city are the lakeside gardens and pavilions of the Summer Palace - a recommended escape, summer or winter. The presence of two universities near here is not in itself of much note but they have spawned plenty of cheap restaurants and some of the more underground bars . It's generally true that all the decent nightlife is in the city's northern outskirts, while on the eastern edge you'll find a plethora of bars serving the city's foreign community and well-to-do Chinese.
